Largest one-day food drive in the world is coming to your mailbox!
Coos Bay, OR (May 6, 2011) – Help stamp out hunger! It’s easy. Simply place nonperishable food donations by your mailbox on the morning of Saturday, May 14, for the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Food Drive, and you can help your neighbors thrive!

“I know our economy is still depressed, and we are looking forward to people donating food,” says letter carrier Pam Shaw with the Coos Bay Post Office. “If everyone steps up, we can make this the best year ever.”
Distribution of emergency food remains at record high levels. In average month, an estimated 5,600 emergency food boxes are distributed in Coos and Curry Counties. Last year’s NALC Food Drive generated 61,085 pounds of food in our region, and food-drive organizers are hoping to exceed that total this year.
“Although the economic downturn is purportedly over, we have not seen any sign that the need for food is declining,” comments Rollie Lobsinger, Director of the South Coast Food Share. “Our partner agencies are working harder than ever to keep up with the need. These agencies need your help with food and cash donations, as well as volunteer support.”
All donated food stays in the community where it was collected. If you miss your letter carrier’s daily visit, drop off your donations at any post office by Wednesday, May 18.
