Local food forum hopes to bring awareness to food needs in the community

KCBY, May 9, 2008

Hoping to bring together the local food community to discuss the current role food plays in the area and how to give it more of a local presence, Oregon Coast Community Action is sponsoring a food forum.

On Monday, food-lovers, chefs, gardeners, and the general community will come together to discuss the increasing need to buy, sell and eat local foods.

“There’s been a lot of media attention recently on food riots, and food recalls, nutrition information. We are just now realizing what role local food plays in that and in the community,” says ORCCA Vista volunteer Shawna Behm.

She says they hope to accomplish a lot with this forum, and future food discussions, to get better support of locally grown foods and how they can be used.

Behm says this is the first of many meetings they will be holding throughout the summer.

If you are interested in joining in on the discussion, the forum will be held at the College Park Church in North Bend from 2 to 4 pm on Monday, May 12th.
