KCBY -Rhymes for Reason Benefit Concert and Food Drive

ORCCA, Jan 21, 2011

A local Hip Hop group has decided to address hunger in our community, one rhyme at a time. Projekt Orijyn has organized a Benefit Concert and Food Drive for South Coast Food Share, entitled “Rhymes for Reason” on January 23, 2011.

This all ages event has been organized to support the South Coast Food Share. The concert will feature the talents of Merc Yakwik, Brown Ceasar, The Heavywights, Povertys Posterboy, Mr. 541, and Dr. War. Admission to the event is one can of food or a cash donation. Every dollar donated brings 7 pounds of food to the region, and can donations of protein and fruit are especially helpful. Over 240,000 people in our state utilize emergency food boxes every month, and 33% of those are children.

The Concert will be at Waxers Rock Hall, located at 226 S. Broadway, in Coos Bay Oregon. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. Information about how you can help feed hungry families by volunteering with a local pantry, or donating to ORCCA’s “Virtual Food Drive” will be available at the event. For details regarding how you can help families thrive, inquire at the booth staffed by AmeriCorps NCCC members.

“Everyone has something to contribute, to make positive difference in the lives of our neighbors,” said Mary Schoen-Clark, CEO of Oregon Coast Community Action. “Whether its volunteering at a local pantry, raising awareness about hunger though an event, or organizing a food drive, we all have something to give.”

The South Coast Food Share network is a program of Oregon Coast Community Action. SCFS works with 33 local pantries and meal sites, the program provides and distributes more than 2 million pounds of food annually. Oregon Coast Community Action provides services that feed, house, warm and educate vulnerable children and families on the South Coast. To learn more call 888-1574 or visit www.orcca.us.
