ORCCA to begin accepting energy assistance requests

KCBY, Oct 21, 2008

Winter is almost here and that means a higher heating bill for your home, but for families who qualify the federal government is sending the state more money than usual for energy assistance.

Director of Energy Services for Oregon Coast Community Action Phil Handsaker says this year there is a 40% increase in funds for people to heat their homes.

ORCCA will begin accepting requests for energy assistance November 3 and what they do is pay the power company directly.

In the past ORCCA has served 2,300 households but this year they hope to help 3,500 to 3,600.

And for those people who do not qualify for energy assistance Oregon Coast Community Action will be holding energy education workshops that can help homeowners save up to $200 a year.

For more information you can contact ORCCA at (541) 888-1574.
